CLEAN ATM 3 – coordinated by the SESAR Deployment Manager – selected by EC for funding
On July 3rd, CLEAN ATM 3 (CP1 Deployment – Synchronised Modernisation of ATM – Part 3) initiative, as prepared and coordinated by the SESAR Deployment Manager, was one of the projects selected to receive EU grants under the CEF Transport Call 2024, out of the over 250 applications.
In a list of awarded projects, CLEAN ATM 3 represents an additional milestone to support the implementation of Common Project 1. Complementing CLEAN ATM 1 and 2 projects, respectively awarded under CEF Transport Calls 2022 and 2023, this new project is set to receive up to € 40 mln of EU public funding in support of essential investments by Airlines and ANSPs in the modernisation of their respective systems and fleet.
The project would aim at kickstarting the implementation of Initial Trajectory Information Sharing into over half of the European airspace: these investments would mark the first step of the long-term transition of ATM to Trajectory Based Operations, simultaneously increasing the capacity of the European airspace and allowing Airspace Users to flight more efficient flight paths.
Mariagrazia La Piscopia, Executive Director at SESAR Deployment Manager, said:
“The CLEAN ATM 3 initiative marks a new step forward for the joint endeavors of the ATM industry to modernize its systems, procedures and infrastructure. Complementing investments already done, it is further proof of the momentum that ATM modernisation has had in the last years, with around 50% of Common Project 1 already in operations and an additional 40% under implementation”.
As part of the same Call, a parallel submission – GREEN CNS 2 – associated to the modernisation and evolution of the European CNS (Communication, Navigation and Surveillance) infrastructure was not selected for funding. Once available in full, SDM will assess the results of the awarding decisions and come back to all involved at a later stage.
