News and views of SESAR Deployment Manager # 1
Dear reader,
End 2024, we reached 10 years since the formal launch of the SESAR Deployment Phase. Within this last decade, we have seen radical transformations and changes in the European Air Traffic Management industry. We have experienced large-scale adoption of innovative technologies, procedures and operational concepts across the whole European Union, reaching an unprecedented scale and pace.
This is a testament to SESAR, and its capability to deliver tangible benefits for European aviation and the almost 1 billion passengers flying in Europe every year. The joint effort of operational stakeholders, coordinated by the SESAR Deployment Manager and the EU institutions, has started to bear fruit.
We have now reached 318 completed projects, out of the 356 which have been awarded EU funding by the Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) so far, with many more on the verge of being closed.
#SESARdelivers is not by coincidence the name of our latest social media campaign, that we jointly launched with SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking. It is a fact!
Spanning from the on-board equipage of aircraft to the systems used in European airports, from the flight planning tools employed by airlines to organize their operations, to the systems used daily by both civil and military Air Traffic Controllers, our operational environment is manifestly different from what it was just a decade ago. Every day we strive as one team with our stakeholders, to deliver a more efficient, resilient and sustainable air transport.
