The Initial Airport Operational Centre (iAPOC), deployed by Aeroports de Paris, DSNA and Air France, is operational in Orly airport since December 2019. The APOC is a unified control room responsible for planning, controlling and monitoring the airport operations.

The main purpose is to bring all key airport stakeholders together in an operational room having a complete and seamless overview on all the airport operations (both landside and airside) from different planning and monitoring perspectives (i.e. at strategic, tactical, execution and post operations level). The APOC dramatically improves the Collaborative Decision Making (CDM), especially in those situations in which a faster recovery from degraded operational performance is pivotal (e.g. meteorological adverse conditions).

Within the APOC, the involved Stakeholders maintain a joint plan – the Airport Operations Plan (AOP) which is a single, common and collaboratively agreed rolling plan available to all airport stakeholders whose purpose is to enable an in-depth information sharing to achieve the most advanced common situational awareness and to form the basis upon which stakeholder decisions relating to process optimisation can be made.

The APOC is equipped with advanced IT tools to perform what-if and post operational analysis with the objective to define, evaluate and optimise different operational scenarios for both nominal and adverse conditions.

It is worth noting that the successful implementation of the initial APOC at Orly airport represents the foundation of the future APOC in which the most advanced tools and decision-making processes will be implemented.

The implementation of this project is bringing tangible benefits resulting in the reduction of both ATC delay and taxi-out time. Moreover, the overall airport capacity increases thanks to the improvements in terms of operational efficiency. These improvements translate in savings of 75 Million Euros until 2030.
