Description

This multistakeholder Project aims to implement Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures for departure and transitions at Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Berlin International and Munich International airports.

In comparison with conventional procedures, RNP specifications require the capability to follow a desired ground track with reliability, repeatability and predictability, thanks to the ability to determine the aircraft position with accuracy and integrity ensured by the usage of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precision systems. Flight procedures designers are therefore allowed to design the procedures with the highest flexibility ensuring an optimal and efficient route structure.

In particular the following RNP procedures are being implemented:

  • RNP Standard Instrumental Departures (SIDs) at Frankfurt airport

  • RNP Standard Instrumental Departures (SIDs) at Düsseldorf airport

  • RNP Standard Instrumental Departures (SIDs) at Berlin-Brandenburg airport

  • RNP Standard Instrumental Departures (SIDs) at Munich airport

The implementation of these flexible and environmentally friendly procedures for departure in high density Terminal Manoeuvring Areas requires a timely, coordinated and synchronized effort among the Air Navigation Service Provider and the local airport operators. RNP procedures will have a significant impact on the increase of TMAs capacity, improving the level of safety while minimising both the noise footprint in the highly populated areas surrounding the major airports in Germany and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

This project also encompasses a consultation process with the local noise abatement committees, including the representatives of communities which are neighbours of the concerned airports.
